Cultural Reflection

Culturally responsive instruction must be theory-driven. As an educator, it is up to me to reflect on my practices regularly in order to decide what is and what is not working for my students. When I encounter this unit next year, I will undoubtedly need to modify the delivery of the content. What my students this year found to be engaging and challenging may not necessarily be the case next year. With every new student also comes an entire family set of cultural resources. I look forward to inviting my students' relatives to be a part of the Eco-Scouts unit in the future. In addition to making it more family-oriented, I also aim to use the additional resources in my building. Now that I know what material needs to be covered in the unit, I would like to collaborate with the bilingual professional at my school prior to implementing it. I hope by conducting this future preparation, the unit will become more culturally responsive so that each student will truly benefit from it. This unit can be adapted in a variety of ways in the upcoming years and I will continue to look forward to instructing it.
